“I have a passion for complementary health care and in particular the use of essential oils”
Over the past 30 years I have nurtured a passion for complementary health care, in particular the use of essential oils to encourage healing, promote relaxation, fight infection, combat stress and to deal with skin problems.
As a layperson, I read about & used essential oils for myself and my family. In 2002 I took my first step towards a career in complementary therapies by becoming initiated into the Usui system of Reiki. This was followed in 2004 by a VTCT course in Swedish Massage and finally I started on my goal towards becoming a professional clinical aromatherapist in 2005.
After intensive study I qualified as a Clinical Aromatherapist and Foot Swiss Reflexologist with an Associate Diploma in Clinical Aromatherapy in March 2007. The qualification is accredited by the International Federation of Professional Aromatherapists (IFPA) (www.ifparoma.org), the Institute of Aromatic Medicine (IAM) and The Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT).
I studied at the Penny Price Academy of Aromatherapy and Health Studies (www.penny-price.com), which is well-established and highly respected in the field of aromatherapy and complementary health care training.
Since that time I have continued my training in this field with advanced studies in aromatherapy. I have become a Reiki master and teacher, a Dorn Method practitioner, a Relaxation, Meditation and Mindfulness Instructor as well as attending workshops and courses on many other areas of complementary health care.
I strongly believe that an improvement in our symptoms and in the overall quality of our health and well-being is possible if we focus on making small changes in all areas of our lives. I also believe in empowering others to listen to their own bodies so that they can help themselves in making that difference. That is why each treatment I give is entirely focused on what my client needs on that particular day and also throughout the course of treatment. So each treatment can include a combination of different therapies during the treatment time (for example Dorn Body Alignment, followed by Aromatherapy massage and Reiki) or an individual therapy (e.g. Aromatherapy massage only). A Health Progression Plan is given to my clients during a course of treatment to continue the client’s well-being at home. It includes advice on essential oil usage and a take-home service of essential oil blends for the clients’ specific needs, a programme of Dorn alignment techniques and stretches to use at home, advice on relaxation techniques including breath and meditation work and other healthcare advice.
This is all delivered in a warm, friendly environment to enable clients to return home feeling relaxed, revived, re-energised and in harmony with their bodies and health.
I have experience of delivering therapies to adults and teenagers in health care centres, at Champneys Springs Spa, with the Derbyshire Carers Association, Burton YMCA, Motor Neurone Disease Association, The Armed Forces Multiple Sclerosis Support Group and Derby Multiple Sclerosis Centre. I have worked with clients with a wide range of health conditions including arthritis, fibromyalgia, back, hip and neck pain, multiple sclerosis, parkinsons, cancer, lymphoedema, motor neurone disease, depression, anxiety, irritable bowel syndrome, skin conditions, hormonal conditions, circulatory and vascular conditions to name a few.
I am a Member of the International Federation of Professional Aromatherapists (IFPA) and the Dorn Method Therapists Association (DMTA) and am a Registered Holy Fire II Karuna Reiki® Master.
